Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report - Thousand Sons vs Tyranids
Vastum
is engulfed in war as the campaign to bring about its downfall begins. While
the forces of Chaos have come to further the reach of the Cicatrix Maledictum,
and the Imperials have started the process of defending what is theirs, other forces
have come into play as well.
After
establishing their landing zone and driving back the initial Imperial
counterattacks, the Thousand Sons have found a new foe seeking to claim the
beleaguered planet. The Tyranids of Hive Fleet Sothoth have arrived, and are barreling
toward the Chaos lines, driven by their rapacious hunger. The Tzaangors cry out
to their dark lord in praise, and the Rubrics draw up battle lines. Soon, fresh
gore will spatter the landscape.

Review
I
haven’t really been shooting much with the Tyranids in these initial games, so
it was brutal to finally see the Devilgants at work! They did extremely well in
their first run, with lots of carnage to their names. Furthermore, they were
able to pin a good chunk of the Thousand Sons force in a continual engagement
to melt their sizeable numbers off the table. It was interesting to see,
because that’s always been what they were bred for in the fluff. They may have
been massacred, but in the process they won the war for the Tyranids with the
attention they drew.
I
also missed my Dakkafexes; this was the first time I’ve played with them in 8th,
and their Deathspitters did not disappoint! They provided a nice firebase I was
missing initially, and all that added damage in the shooting phase made things
a little easier when some of the bugs missed their charges off the bat.
I
do think the Scarab Occult would have been better deployed on the opposite end
of the Tyranids, in an attempt to combat the wall of psychic death coming from
that front. The Termagants just drew so much attention that it seemed to spell
doom for the rest of the army. With their attention so split, it left very
little that could be done to the droves of medium-sized bugs plugging away at
the remnants.
Stay
tuned; the battle for Vastum is just beginning! Be sure to check out World War
40k’s website, where you can get in on the fun. It’s free to play, and when you
report your results you influence the future of the beleaguered planet. We look
forward to seeing you all on the fields of this unfortunate world!
