Black Templars vs Necrons – Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report
In
the ruins of an old Imperial outpost, vital supplies have been located. The
Black Templars deployed quickly in an attempt to recover these vital assets,
but they were not in time to prevent a counterattack. High Marshall Helbrecht
had little more than arrived at the site when the first stirrings of contact
were sighted in the distance. He growled as he scented the unmistakable
presence of the Necron threat. With a roar, the Templars ploughed toward their
unliving foes, and battle was joined in the previously silent wilderness.

Review
I
love the changes to how reserves arrive. It has really made the decision feel
like a tactical gambit, rather than an automatic thing as often as possible. I
really had to think whether I wanted to bring the Immortals on in deployment or
not, and I was doubting the decision up until they arrived.
When
the Necron reserves arrived, however, they tipped the balance of the entire
game. The Assault Squad vanished instantly beneath the fusillade of gauss fire,
and the Monolith spent two turns of shooting to completely break the fire
support across the center. Though their casualties were light in comparison to
their comrades, the Crusader Squads simply didn’t have enough impetus left, and were swept away.
At the end of the day, it was exciting to see the Black Templars in action. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them in the future!
