40k Video Battle Report #5 – Necrons vs Tyranids

For this game, I was finally able to meet up with Brian for a game against the ancient Necrons. Our mission would be The Scouring, with Hammer & Anvil deployment. Will the Tyranids be able to overrun the wall of massed Armor 13, or will the implacable Necrons leave a twitching carpet of bodies as testament to their arcane sciences?

After Action Review

It was a real breath of fresh air to play against the Necrons for a change. We haven’t had a big number of players lately, so getting a chance to go against these xenos brought a new challenge to the Tyranids. I had a blast playing against them, and I’m looking forward to more games in the future.

The Carnifexes continue to prove their worth in the new edition. Not only did they plow through the Scarab Swarms in a hurry, but they also crushed all the AV13 they could wrap their Talons around! Admittedly, Brian said that he should have kept his Scarabs back until later, but even by keeping them from my front the Carnifexes are fulfilling a valid mission. The Necrons just didn’t have the answers for all that high Toughness.

The Catacomb Command Barge is an absolute nightmare in the new edition. With its incredible resilience and the Mindshackle Scarabs waiting for any big nasties, I simply didn’t have the time or the resources to fight it. I was forced to play laterally, sacrificing a twenty-strong brood of Hormagaunts in order to keep it from influencing the game. I think a Carnifex or two charging alongside the Hormagaunts would mitigate the effects of Mindshackle Scarabs, but it is still a big risk and a huge investment of resources.

Thanks for watching; with any luck we will have more reports in the very near future.
