Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report #36 – Dark Eldar vs Necrons, ATC 2016 #1

It’s been a long time since we’ve put up a battle report, as we’ve been working on construction and painting for new armies and new tables. We finally decided that we couldn’t wait until all the dust was removed and the construction fully established. Today, we stirred the dust and put up the “Excuse our Mess” signs, and decided to have a throwdown in the half-finished structure.

Josh brings out his Dark Eldar today for their first on-screen mission, squaring off with the Necrons in one of the rough draft missions for the 2016 American Team Championships. Facing them is the Decurion of the Dagon Dynasty, freshly risen and moving to serve The Painter in glorious battle. Who will emerge triumphant?

After Action Review

Man, those Tactical Objectives got sideways in a hurry. The Decurion’s resiliency really shined again, and the inaccurate fire of the Dark Eldar didn’t help anything. Add in some really above average Reanimation Protocols, and it made for a one-sided bloodbath.

Timing your attacks with the Dark Eldar is a matter of finesse, and Griff is still very new to the faction. I think he would have been better off to let the Necrons go first, allowing his speed and reactions to give him time he needed in the end of each turn to accomplish Objectives. It really does take some time to saw through entrenched Necrons.

I really like the Grotesques. They are a tough customer, and although they would be vulnerable to Gauss Blasters in the open, they still aren’t going down quickly.
