After Action Review

Necron resiliency didn’t play much of a role in my first game, but this time around it really did make a difference! This was especially true when that nutty Veteran Sergeant decided he could take on three Necrons at once, and very nearly did!

Close combat is going to be very brutal in this game; it is almost always immediately decisive, leaving very little margin for error if the other guy has better wargear. While you might slay the enemy, it is no guarantee that he isn't going to punch you out in return!

I don't know how much I like the basic firefight mission, to be honest. It seems to straightforward, and there seems to be small amounts of tactics involved. This could have to do with the fact that I've been playing Necrons, and they seem to function best when they move at the enemy in a small block and pour overwhelming firepower in. Once I switch off to my second kill team, we will see if this changes.

With that said, that alley turned into a bloodbath for the poor traitor Guardsmen. They got caught in a bad spot with the Necrons still having cover as they exposed themselves, and Gauss fire rakes the alleyway and turned them to ash. The timing just felt off. Even with that though, the Sergeant very nearly wiped out my entire team single-handedly. He just did not want to fail those armor saves!

Stay tuned; there is much more coming in the way of Shadow War in the very near future.
