After Action Review

This game started very poorly for the forces of the Scourge. None of my high-damage shots were able to land killing blows, and my units disintegrated like wet paper. In terms of the damage-dealing units on the table, my assaulting element was quickly closed down and then annihilated.

In the end, though, it didn’t matter. While the UCM jumped out to an early lead in terms of points, I almost think Griff became too caught up in destroying my stuff. The UCM let vengeance come first in their mind, and while the Scourge paid for it in blood (or black goo), I was still able to neutralize his transporting Dropships and push ahead into his quarter for the victory.

So much of Dropzone Commander comes down to the lateral play you use while the rest of the army does battle. I find this is more true with the Scourge than it is with the Shaltari; while my Hunters and Reapers take the fight to the enemy in droves, the Scourge Infantry can quietly gather objectives or push into unexpected areas to kill oncoming enemies with their Plasma Rifles.

That said, if his Fast Movers had made an earlier appearance I’m not sure that I would have kept the steam to finish the battle in the lead. By them remaining stuck in Reserve, my Intruders were able to work my Infantry all across the table, getting them into a high number of Structures to score the points needed to win the day for me.

Stay tuned for more battle reports in the future!
