Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report - Endgame Agora Part II – Orks vs Space Wolves

Hey everyone, we are back with another mission to decide the fate of Agora! This time I step into the boots of my Space Wolves for their debut outing, facing down the Orks of Waaagh! Blitzdakka once more. This time, Blitzdakka has unleashed one of his most formidable Goff bosses to take over an Imperial mining complex.

In this second round of Agora’s endgame, the Imperials have managed to tenaciously hold their ground, giving themselves a moment to breathe and consider the motives of the forces of disorder. They are currently gathering undetonated ordnance from the Exterminatus ship that wrecked early in the campaign, planning to use them to blow Agora itself apart along a fault line.

Today the Orks seek out one of these charges, and the Space Wolves have plans to stop them…

The Great Wolf closed his eyes and leaned back against the restraints in his Drop Pod, grinning widely as he listened to the boasts of his Wolf Guard Terminators. Ragnar was in hot pursuit of the renegade Blood Claws, and Erik was hunting the Red Corsairs through the debris of a destroyed moon.

Logan left himself a much simpler, grander endeavor.

“Sir,” came the voice of an Iron Priest, “the Long Fangs have reported contact. Orks, moving into the vicinity of the ordnance.”

“Greenskins,” chuckled Grimnar. “It’s the Red Waaagh! all over again.”

“What are your orders, my king?”

“Do you have a fix on the shaft that contains the charge?”

“Aye, I’m targeting it now.”

“Good. Unleash the Wolves, brother. It is time to hunt.”

The Wolf Guard around him howled in joy as their Drop Pod screamed into orbit.

Logan swung the Axe Morkai once more, opening the neck of his Weirdboy opponent to the bone. Around him the last of the mob fell, but to ribbons by Wolf Claws or smashed to paste beneath Thunder Hammers. His warriors sang as they killed the Orks, knowing that no other greenskins were in range to claim the charge now. With a grunt of effort, Logan tore the Weirdboy’s head from its shoulders, holding it aloft and howling at the reeling Ork forces.

“Hrothgar, are you still there?”

There was a brief silence over the link before the panting voice of the Rune Priest came back. “Aye, my king. Just finishing the last of the resistance here. The Blood Claws have taken several casualties, two are definitely KIA. They will sing and drink long of their success here today, Great Wolf. We have slaughtered a great many Ork. The Iceheart has claimed three Ork leaders in personal combat.”

Logan opened the link to all of his warriors. “The Blood Claws have made their names known today, brothers. From now to their last breaths, they will be known as Orksbane. I will pour their first round myself!”

As a chorus of howls came back, the comm clicked. One of the Grey Hunters spoke through.

“My lord, our pack has tribute. The Warboss has conveniently misplaced his skull.”

Logan laughed as he fired his Storm Bolter into a twitching Ork. “The mining charge is under my personal control. All elements, fall back. Our battle barge has a surprise for the greenskin survivors…”

After Action Review

I truly missed my Space Wolves! This game was a fantastic return to a faction I have always loved, and I’m glad to have them on the table once more. The past few years have felt strange, and as I’ve returned to each faction I’ve wondered why they feel so different. It was refreshing to find the Space Wolves’ character much as I left it.

Logan seems like an absolute beat stick. He got a healthy dose of close combat in finishing off the Weirdboy and his buddies, but I almost wish I could have tested him more completely. It just didn’t seem like enough of a challenge for the chapter master himself!

The Rune Priests feel off somehow. I’m not sure how to explain it or put my finger on it, but something is missing. Perhaps it was in my list style, or maybe the psychic game has just changed too much since the last time I fielded them. I’m going to do some more experimentation, but it is definitely going to take some research.

The Wolves will return for another battle report soon, for the Allfather!
