40k Video Battle Report #1 – Chaos Space Marines vs Tyranids

Welcome all to our first Battle Report under Warhammer 40,000: 7th edition!

In an effort to clean up the Battle Reports for ease of location and ordering, I’ve decided to start assigning each Battle Report a number. This will allow me to refer back to older Battle Reports when posting new content, and it will hopefully help you, the reader/viewer, to remember which reports you’ve seen!

All right, enough of that nonsense. On to the carnage!

Post-Game Thoughts:

Keep in mind, this game was played the day after 7th edition came out, so there was much we were still learning.

This game went very well for me, and showcased some of the potential weaknesses in the new Psychic Phase. I will definitely need more Synapse (and more Psykers) in the future to continue getting my powers off in time.

Personally, I love the new rules for Move Through Cover. In 6th edition, I wouldn’t have dreamed of making some of the charges I pulled down in this game. While I wish it had went on a bit longer, to see how I did against the summoned Bloodthirster and the Forgefiends, I did agree with my opponent’s assessment that he was in a tough spot. The Carnifexes are amazingly swift now, and they feel more useful because of Smash’s changes. I’m also eager to try out a Haruspex or two with Adrenal Glands, since their Crushing Claws could prove useful in a battle against significant armor.

The Psychic Phase just doesn’t feel all that bad. My opponent was able to get off a spell or two, but he overloaded on dice and left himself without the Warp Charge needed to defend himself. As a result, the Lord of Change died very early in the game. I also think he needs to roll his powers on the opposite Psykers, since the Demons don’t have the risk of Perils on any double when rolling for Malefic. We’ve played a few more games since this battle report was done, and I have already seen that he indeed learned from this approach.

Stay tuned for more, Chaos has made quite an appearance again in the past week or so!
