Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report #31 – Blood Angels vs Necrons
Here is the second of our ATC practice runs. Keep in mind that some of the rules to the missions were slightly tweaked after we did these play-through videos, so keep that in mind if you attended the event and the missions look somewhat different to what you remembered.

Review
The
horde Necron list with the dual Monoliths was interesting, but I definitely
think this list is more functional. The Wraiths add a nice close combat threat
to prevent an all-out attack against my lines, and the Flyers bring some
excellent anti-tank that the Necrons are sorely lacking at range. With all that
said, I do think I need to put more Wraiths in as soon as I can get the models.
The three were awesome, but six could have completely broken the line. Three
just go down a touch too quickly.
The
Blood Angels really benefited from the Devastator additions. My entire battle
plan was formulated around avoiding as much of their firepower as possible. If
the mission had involved Objectives scattered across the entire table, I would
have had no choice but to endure the full brunt of their firepower. Luckily, I
was able to skirt the mountain and draw the second squad into a killing field.
My opponent unfortunately forgot about the Death Rays, and the clumped
Devastators were easy prey for their attacks.
I
allowed the Scouts to dictate more of my battle plan than they should have. I
don’t know that the Immortals were needed on the opposite flank, but if a few
more dice had fallen against me and taken the steam out of my Warrior blocks, I
don’t know if I would have been able to push through his strength there. In
that regard the Scouts functioned perfectly, drawing me out of position and
keeping those Immortals from adding their bulk of fire to the main advance.
As always, tell us what we did wrong here! What changes would you
make to the lists?
